Going into my Southern Weddings Magazine internship at the beginning of the summer, I knew that the experience would teach me some things. And now, as the summer is coming to a close, and tomorrow is my last day in the office, I cannot believe it is over.
A sample of how Southern Weddings (SW) has changed me.
Before SW: Southern Weddings was the only blog I read.
Now: I am obsessed. This is not a lie. Cup of Jo, Black Eiffel, 100-Layer Cake, Design*Sponge.. the list goes on. No fear! Even though I see all of the images beforehand I still pour over the blog everyday!
Before SW: I had never attended an Indian wedding.
Now: I am pretty sure that my future husband will ride in on a horse, as per Indian custom. No seriously.
Before SW: I had never been in a small office environment.
Now: I see it as ideal. Seeing these three ladies work to create an amazing magazine, plan weddings and multiple businesses, was incredible to me. I realized that the smaller number allowed for more direct, successful communication. These ladies are motivated!
Before SW: I probably could only name around five or six flower types.
Now: Thanks to Emily, who knows every flower ever (okay, maybe an exaggeration) I can now tell you the flowers in many wedding bouquets. The number of flowers that I can now identify is probably up to 20. Success.
Before SW: I had never spent a summer getting up so early.
Now: I don't want the early mornings to end! Cannot believe I am saying this one. But I really don't mind getting up early and getting to go do something I love everyday!
Before SW: I had never been to a photo shoot.
Now: I have not only been to a photo shoot. It was my first day of my internship. And ohmygoodnessitwasamazing.
All of these things are great. But on a more serious level. I really did enjoy my time at Southern Weddings and loved being able to be behind the scenes at a business that I loved and in an industry that I am interested in going into.
Advice?

Listen! Pay attention, you will learn so much just by observing how the business works!
