Hey, CAFME members!
This summer, I am interning for Her Campus media. Some of you may have heard of Her Campus through UNC's awesome branch. If so, you can skip to the next paragraph. If not, let me explain: Her Campus is an online women's magazine started by three Harvard students in 2009. It has quickly become a popular and awesome nationwide publication!
I am an editorial intern, and after three days of work, I have been given a lot of responsibilities. I am the Love editor, which means I edit eight Love section articles a week. I love doing this because not only do I get to read content early, but I love seeing what other writers have to say.
I am also writing for HC's news, beauty, and pop culture blogs. I especially love pop culture, so I am so excited about this.
Additionally, I will be writing the newsletter each week for our Her Campus Insiders. I also do a lot of organizing in Google Docs (which is quickly becoming my best friend,) assign articles with the other interns and my editor, and help out with whatever else my editor, Stephanie Kaplan, needs me to.
My first day was pretty good. We did a lot of training, and I got to meet all of the great people who work in the office. My only complaint is that I forgot my computer charger, so I had to go get it during my lunch break. I've (hopefully) learned my lesson.
I'm really excited to start this next week, but I have to admit I'm nervous, too. I was nervous on my first day, and I guess I will still be a little anxious until I get my work routine down. This will be my first full week, so I feel as though the pressure is a little higher this week.
So far, though, I consider myself really lucky to have this internship. I love that the environment is small and personal, and, yet, our goals are really big. It's a great introduction to the magazine industry!
I hope you all have had a good first week or will have a good first week! I can't wait to hear all about them!
Sounds great Rachel, hope you're learning lots and getting great ideas for Her Campus UNC!! Can't wait to hear more about your internship!
