This week is like the beginning of my life! Maybe it’s not that dramatic, but a lot of wonderful things have still happened this week. I started both of my internships on Monday – Carolina Union Design Services and Southern Weddings.
After getting rid of my first-day nerves and a little rundown of how things work in Design Services, I was put to work creating identity ideas for Fall Fest – basically, a new logo for a new year of awesome South Road fun. (At least that’s what I’m trying to convey in my designs). The great thing about Design Services is that they give their designers a lot of freedom. I spent my first day playing around with ideas and developing the ones I liked. And anytime I need it, I have a room full of designers and a supervisor who are more than willing to give me feedback. (There’s also a very inspiring mini bucket full of candy by the computers). Despite the pressure of trying to be a good intern, having design ideas to throw around again is a lot of fun and I’m looking forward to how my projects turn out.
When I made it to Southern Weddings, my pre-internship nerves from that morning surfaced again. But as soon as I walked in the door of Southern Weddings for my first day of the internship, I was greeted with a hug from Lara Casey, which made me feel so much better. I started on putting together some logos for art director Emily’s blog post about her trip to the National Stationery Show. Since my first day, I’ve been doing image strips and some graphic design for SW, often to the background music of relaxing, yet upbeat songs and chatter about weddings.
Doesn’t that sound wonderful??
We are so glad to have you at SW! I'll be sure to stop in sometime soon so that we can actually meet!
