Sharing a Newfound Love

It’s a little embarrassing to admit this, but I have a huge folder saved on my computer filled with photos of all things wedding related. After taking a design internship with Southern Weddings Magazine, the gates to what was previously a secret, well-suppressed love of weddings were pulled open. On my resident advisor staff, I am the wedding girl. I take a little bit of pride in the fact that I’ve brought out the wedding-love in many other girls, too. We bond over colors, dresses, same-day edits, and the fact that we all want a photo booth at our receptions. What’s the best about this love is the fact that I can share Southern Weddings with my friends.

I haven’t started my internship yet, but I already feel an attachment to the magazine and the blog that gives me a warm, fuzzy feeling. It all started when Lara Casey, the publisher and editor-in-chief (She’s also the CEO of Making Things Happen and Lara Casey Reps, a luxury wedding consulting firm), came to speak to CAFME. Southern Weddings Magazine is based in Chapel Hill and started when the Southern Weddings blog became a hit for brides-to-be. Southern Weddings Magazine is rapidly growing and circulating across the country, and the magazine is only two years old! Their first issue was so popular that finding a copy is virtually impossible. It’s run by a tiny staff of amazing women who are so warm and welcoming that I’m already brainstorming all the things I can bake for them this summer.

Southern Weddings shares my philosophy that a magazine should be personable, and that readers should feel like they know the staff. For my first internship, I feel so lucky to have found a group of people who I am excited to work with and whom I admire. The fact that I now have my wedding all planned out is just a bonus.

  1. Hey Nicole!
I'm Cara, the other Southern Weddings intern!
Hopefully we can meet soon! I am working mornings, but I am sure that we will see each other.
