Summer at Seventeen: Celebrity Sighting

Hi CAFME! I'm Sydney McKinney, a rising senior advertising major in the School of Journalism and Mass Communication. This summer I am a marketing intern at Seventeen Magazine, and the first three weeks of my internship have been such a blast!

While interning here I've had the chance to meet several semi-famous people,  but last week I had an even more extraordinary opportunity! 'Pretty Amazing' is a contest that is hosted by Seventeen and Neutrogena, and each year a winner is selected to appear on the cover of the magazine. Throughout the selection process, three judges get to interview the finalists and decide who they think is best fit based on their merit. This year, the judges included Emma Roberts, Jared Eng, and Ann Shoket, and last Monday I got to see all three!

When I heard the news that I would get to see Emma Roberts in person, I thought it was too good to be true! Being as celeb-obsessed as I am, I thought there was no way that they would let me, an intern, go to such an exciting event. When they told me that I could come and help, I was extremely excited! I had spotted semi-celebrity Anna Wintour, editor-in-chief of Vogue, several weeks earlier outside of Balthazar, but this was way cooler!

As soon as Emma arrived, the paparazzi was there to greet her. As she came off the elevator and whirled right by me, I had to do a double take before realizing it was her, Emma, in the flesh! I quickly made my way to the reception hall, trying to play it cool, as I plotted where and when I would try and sneak a picture of her. Luckily, I made it just in time to take a picture from behind the professional photographers and videographers (see picture above)!

I cannot even begin to describe how cool it was to see Emma, and how much I love my internship! Seventeen has provided me with so many exciting and unique opportunities to work with wonderful people (and celebrities)! Here's to hoping that this wasn't the only celebrity sighting of summer 2012!
