Jack Johnson in the office?

I was talking to a coworker about iPad graphics last week when she casually mentioned, "Oh did you know Jack Johnson is here?" I had literally been listening to my Jack Johnson Pandora station all morning so I was more than excited.

He was receiving an award at the National Geographic Society Evening of Exploration Gala and was taking a tour of the building, which included a stop in the Layout Room of the Art Department, where our life-size recreation of a cavewoman, Wilma, lives.

So of course I found excuses to walk past several times and sneak a peek and he's just as cute in person! I didn't get a chance to meet him, which is probably best because I'm sure I wouldn't have been able to form a coherent sentence, but it was still really exciting and one of the highlights of my time at NatGeo.

Other highlights of my internship in D.C.:
  • Learning to size graphics for iPad
  • Completing my first solo graphic for a story in the December issue
  • Discovering sushi in the NGS cafeteria
  • Learning to make scrambled eggs in the microwave (breakfast of champion interns)
