Besides a great lunch, the first cool thing that happened was that I had my first sighting of semi-celebrity Ann Shoket, the editor-in-chief of Seventeen, behind me in the flatbread line. Later I realized she has to walk by my desk every day on the way to the bathroom, but I was still semi-starstruck since I had seen her in the magazine and on America's Next Top Model so many times.
After lunch, I got acquainted with one of the awesome perks of interning at a women's magazine: samples. Apparently these were not great samples, but I still got Mark lipgloss, Covergirl powder, and a nail care kit for free. I'm interested to see what the "good" samples are now.
At about 3:00, two of the other interns and I got called into a closet that held the clothes for Friday's photo shoot for an advertorial. Our supervisors told us that there were going to be three different looks, and that we needed to go out and buy accessories for all of these looks. We had $500 to spend on accessories that we thought would be appropriate for the looks, and were first to stop at Forever21 and spend about $300 there. We underestimated how much less-than-10-dollar jewelry would add up and spent about $430 at Forever21, but got some great stuff. Shopping with someone else's money was definitely the most fun assignment that the interns in my department have had so far. I didn't expect that I would get to do something like this when I started, but I am definitely not complaining about getting out an hour later that day. My supervisor even told me I could come in an hour late the next day since I had to work late. Hopefully the perks of working for free keep coming! Happy Friday!
